Things to look for when buying a French Press
Even though a french press is a relatively cheap coffee device, it’s still important to look for certain qualities when purchasing your first (or another) french press coffee maker. A french press coffee maker should be a device to last you for years of enjoyment with proper care. Once you’re ready to purchase a french press coffee maker, check out the list we’ve curated to get you started.

Mueller French Press Double-Wall
Mueller French Press is an all-metal 304 18/10 double-layered stainless-steel that will make great french press coffee. One of the best attributes of the Mueller French Press is the thick heavy double-wall metal construction for insulating heat and keeping your coffee hotter, longer. Its stainless steel construction also makes it rustproof, durable, and resilient to multiple washing. The Mueller French Press also comes with two extra mesh filters and a travel canister for storing coffee (small amount). The little container isn’t enough to hold more than one pot of coffee, but it’s still a nice addition. The finer mesh filter helps with the ‘sludge’ you get from finer grounds in your coffee beans, while I would recommend coarse to extra-coarse for French press coffee, lesser quality grinders may produce inconsistent grounds, this is where a finer mesh will help. This is a high-quality French Press that will last you a long time.
We tested enough mechanisms and filters to make your head spin to tweak and uniquely design our press with a triple layered filter structure to stop the sediment, but let the yummy coffee oils through for a full-bodied delicious brew that will make you a very happy camper. And to share the java love, we give you a bonus matching travel canister that holds enough beans or grounds for two full batches.Mueller

- Great Mesh Filter
- No Measurement Marks
Coffee Gator French Press
This is my favorite French Press and I can personally attest to its quality and build. This is my second ‘go-to’ coffee-making method after the pour-over coffee. My previous french press was a single filter, glass with a plastic handle. While that worked for a long time, the plastic handle finally broke off and it was time to retire old faithful. I had it for about 2 years, it was a gift. I purchased the Coffee Gator shortly after some research and I’ve had this coffee maker going on 3 years now, without a single issue. It keeps coffee hot fairly well while brewing, although I don’t suggest leaving your coffee in the French Press as it will over-extract and cause bitterness to subsequent cups.
- No plastic pieces
- Quality Build
- Double Mesh Filter
- Great Customer Support
- Expensive compared to other presses
- Color has the potential to flake
Le Creuset Stoneware 27-Ounce French Press
Le Creuset is legendary in the cookware industry and this magnificent piece of stoneware is no different. It comes in a variety of awesome colors as you would expect from a Le Creuset and superb customer support. When buying a Le Creuset you expect quality, but it usually comes with a hefty price. For a French Press, it is expensive, but for a Le Creuset, not so much. Le Creuset French Press is the only ceramic / stoneware on this list that I would recommend, but owning a Le Creuset French Press requires extreme care. I would say it’s durable like a plate or coffee mug but will crack or break if you drop it. Because of the ceramic properties, heat retention is superb and of course, it looks amazing as you would expect for a Le Creuset. This is a coffee maker for the person that requires a stylish piece in the kitchen while serving guests stylishly with a hot pot of coffee.
- Great look
- DurableEasy To Clean
- Distributes Heat Evenly
- Handle Stays Cool
- Retains Heat
- Breaks/Chips Easily
- FlimsyIll fitting lid
- No grounds filter in Lid
- Single Filter
Bodum 1548-01US Brazil French Press
Bodum 1548-01US Brazil French Press is one of the most affordable French Press coffee makers on this list and it’s the only one that comes in 3 different sizes for brewing coffee. I owned a Bodum for a couple of years and it worked really well, with the exception of the plastic pieces that eventually wore out and the plunger piece that holds the filter. Bodum, however, has great customer support and replaced my broken device and sent me a new one in a couple of weeks. I never had any issues with the glass body of the Bodum French Press, but I always worried about thin it was, and other users have reported breaking their Bodum French Press by bumping common kitchen items with it. Overall, it’s a great buy for the price and should last you a few years. There’s not a lot of moving parts to the French Press and my only other design critique is the single filter mesh design, this French press could really use a double mesh system.
- Affordable / Price
- Three different capacity
- Great customer support
- Plastic Handle
- Heat retention is not great
- Glass body seemed fragile
Veken French Press Double-Wall
Veken French Press is similar to the Coffee Gator and Mueller French presses with a double-wall construction for great heat retention. The lid on the Veken goes in 10mm deeper than previous models ensuring a tight fit around the pot. This helps the Veken insulate hot beverages better than the Coffee Gator or Mueller French Press system. The Veken French Press is also more affordable than the Mueller and comparable in price to the Coffee Gator while providing better performance. Overall, the Veken has really good construction with some additional features that other French Press coffee makers do not have.
- Double Wall
- Great Heat Retention
- Solid Construction
- Internal Measurements
- Water can get trapped in the lid unit
